Biography
Shining Star Consulting founder Monte S. Meyers, MBA, CMA, has over 25 years of experience in the fields of accounting, strategic planning, budgets, financial systems and processes, and financial reporting.
Principal, Shining Star Consulting 2006 - Present
CFO, California Alumni Association 1997 - 2006
Served as CFO for the California Alumni Association (UC Berkeley) for over 8 years, dealing with every aspect of finance for the organization. He was responsible for accounting operations, developing the annual financial plan (budget), and reporting results against budgets to the Board of Directors and to staff. He created sophisticated financial forecasting models and coordinated efforts to float an $8 million Tax-Exempt bond. In addition, he selected and supervised the finance personnel, managed the organization’s investments, pension plan, and insurance requirements. He supervised the monthly journal close, the year-end close, and managed the annual audit performed by a Big 4 accounting firm.
Staff Manager and Finance Team Lead, Pacific Bell 1981-1997
He began his sixteen-year career at Pacific Bell as an accounting unit supervisor, and took on positions of increasing scope and responsibility. In his last role for the company, he served as the finance team lead for the Advanced Communications Network, developing internal controls, a multi-million dollar billing system, and a sophisticated regulatory accounting reporting system.

In addition to his finance and accounting expertise, Monte brings a broad range of experiences in other administrative areas, including computer support and network infrastructure, organization development, human resources, and facilities management. He understands change and the impact on an organization as he has first-hand experience with culture changes, board restructures, downsizing, major moves of staff, and implementation of new accounting and computer systems.

An avid outdoor enthusiast, Monte has served on the Board of Directors of the Yosemite Institute for 9 years, and on the audit and finance committees of the parent organization, Yosemite National Institutes. He also served for six years as Chair of the Backpacking Section of the Sierra Club’s highly acclaimed Inner City Outings program in the SF Bay Chapter. For pure enjoyment, Monte sings Tenor with the UC Alumni Chorus.
